Jun 26 (Wed) - River Update
Wicked big waddah.
Around midnight tonight the river will come up over the wall and start flowing into LeClaire Park downtown. By Friday morning everything you see here, and more, will be under water.

Don’t know what they’re gonna do about 4th of July festivities, by then it’ll be major flood stage.

The river looks kinda calm in the above picture but don’t be fooled. Over a hundred thousand cubic feet of water is rippin’ by every second. That amount of water will double in five days.

Closer to the dam the river almost looks like it’s boiling. The river bottom isn’t sand, it’s basically granite that was blasted into submission back in the day so there’s plenty of roughness down there. 50 feet deep in places.

Poor pelicans. They float downstream so fast (I have to slow jog just to keep with the flow) then they take flight and flap their way back up to the dam. Over and over again. Dozens of em. To me they always look disappointed with their lot in life but for all I know this could be peak livin’ for ‘em.
