May 12 (Mon) – Electrical Project #2

This one was outside. And only five pictures for this simple article.

25-05-13-electrical-repair-box-ears-1.jpgThe picture on the left shows two electrical outlets that I installed many years ago. One on the side of the house, the other one is right near the patio. Two outlets reduces the chance of a tripping hazard caused by cords laying across the concrete path.

25-05-13-electrical-repair-box-ears-2.jpgThe problem is that the two ‘ears’ on the box against the house have broken off the box. That box floats in the breeze. It gets direct sun for half the day so that may have something to do with why the ears broke. I use the patio outlet a lot more than I use the house outlet so I dunno. Maybe I could have done a better job of locating the fasteners for the two ears. At any rate, it needed fixed.

25-05-13-electrical-repair-box-ears-3.jpgI found some screws that did the trick - pan head, aggressive threads, long enough to go deep into the 2 x 6. I won’t go into the details of why I technically should have replaced the box rather than do what I did to it but never mind that.
